Proliferating cells differ in size. Does this phenomenon have any effect on the enrichment of tumour cells with OncoQuick®?
No.
The separation principle of OncoQuick® takes advantage of differences in density, but not size. Often circulating tumour cells are non-proliferating cells and as such unaffacted by conventional therapy (chemotherapy, radiotherapy). Such ‘doming cells’ have identical densities.
